Top Debuts: 1891-1895

Hey guys! So for today’s post I have the next installment in the Top Debuts series. It’s going to be from years 1891-1895. I will be doing the “Rare” C boy names soon but I though you guys would like more of this series. So let’s get started.

1891
Gayle, Idabelle, and Zenia- These were the top debuts for girls in 1891. They were given to 9 babies.
  • Gayle means festive party in English. It was given to 6 baby girls this year.
  •  Idabelle is a combination of Ida and Belle in English. It was given to no babies this year.
  • Zenia means guest stranger in greek. It was given to 35 babies this year.
Sheridan- This was the top debuts for boys in 1891. It was given to 14 babies. Sheridan means seeker in Irish and was given to 9 baby boys this year.


1892
Astrid, Dallas, and Jennett- These were the top debuts in 1892. They were given to 9 babies.
  • Astrid means fair, beautiful goddess in Norse and was given to 231 babies this year.
  • Dallas means from the dales, the valley meadows in Scottish and was given to 232 babies this year.
  • Jennet means God is gracious in English and was given to 15 babies this year.
Corbett- This was the top debut for boys in 1892 and was given to 23 babies. Corbett means young crow in Norman French. This year it was given to 15 babies.


1893
Elmyra- This was the top debut for girls in 1983 and it was given to 12 babies. Elmyra means aristocratic lady, princess in Arabic. It was not given it any babies this year.
Estel, Mayo, Shelley, and Thorwald- These were the top debuts for boys in 1893. They were each given to 8 babies.
  • Estel means star in French and was given to no babies this year.
  • Mayo means yew tree plain in Irish and was given to no babies this year.
  • Shelley means ledge meadow in English and was given to no baby boys this year.
  • Thorwald means Thor’s ruler in Old Norse and was given to no babies this year.

1894
Beatriz, Carola, and Marrie- These were the top debuts in 1894 for girls and were given to 9 babies each.
  • Beatriz means voyager (through life); blessed in Latin and was given to 140 babies this year.
  • Carola means free man in German and was given to 7 babies this year.
  • Marrie means star of the sea in French and was given to no babies this year.
Arvel, Erby and Floy- These were the top debuts for boys and they were given to 8 babies each.
  • Arvel means cried over in Welsh and was given to no babies this year.
  • Erby means bright army in German and was given to no babies this year.
  • Floy means flower in Latin and was given to no babies this year.

1895
Trilby- This was the top debut for girls in 1895 and was given to 12 babies. Tribly means from the Thorolf’s farm in English. It was given to no babies this year.
Roosevelt- This was the top debut for boys in 1895 and was given to 12 babies. Roosevelt means rose field in Danish. This year 39 babies were given this name.
